CAD & CAM

Here’s my work with SOLIDWORKS and Siemens NX

along with the logic and design framework for each project.

ContourTray – Design for Manufacturing

This is a journey through 3D design and CAM. I was inspired by geographical contours and designed this valet tray to represent the Western Ghats, a mountain range in Maharashtra, India.

After sketching this design out on a drawing software, I used a combination of solid and surface modelling on Siemens NX to make the contours of a desired set of heights.

Some quick user interviews informed me that most people stored items of less than 1 inch in depth, this included keys, ChapSticks and jewelry. I designed the model with these factors in mind.

Machining logic: To minimize the number of tools, I made all radii 0.25" and used a ball mill with a 0.005 scallop for the rounded sides.

Coffee Pot Redesign

I redesigned the age old Italian Moka Pot to give it a modern touch, with some curved surfaces as the sides, and a grip handle that makes pouring coffee easier.

Designing the inner chamber as well as assembling the lid on a hinge. The design would prevent coffee buildup at the spout too.

I’ve rendered the pot with Axalta paints and rubber handle and top grips.
